Susanne Bowen

Short biography

Since December 2010, Susanne Bowen has been the chancellor of the University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund, where she previously worked as a legal adviser and the head of an administrative department. Her primary duties as chancellor encompass budget and administrative responsibilities. Since taking on the office of chancellor she has been involved in the nationwide association of chancellors of the universities of applied sciences. She is a member of the working committee on finances, organization and personnel and serves as speaker for the universities of applied sciences in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania. Before joining University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund, she worked as a jurist for the state education authority in Neubrandenburg. Susanne studied law in Bonn, Göttingen, Paris and Kaliningrad and finished her legal studies with Second State Exam for Law Graduates (assessor exam). During her law internship she worked in a law firm in Tallinn, Estonia and at the German Embassy in Moscow. In addition, she is presently enrolled at the university of applied sciences in Osnabrück, where she seeks to obtain her MBA in Higher Education and Research Management. Alongside her professional interests in education and educational policies, she takes an avid interest in architecture, Hanseatic cities and their histories, and the Baltic Sea area as a multinational region linked by common political and cultural concerns.
