During the Mercator fellowship, Paul Fabel devotes himself to the protection of cultural heritage. He wants to find ways of preventing the illegal trade in cultural goods from the country of origin to the market country. Prior to this, Paul worked as a project manager at UNESCO and as a research assistant at the UNESCO Chair for International Relations at Dresden University of Technology. Other work placements brought him to Santiago de Chile, Pretoria and Brussels. Paul earned his BA in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin and his MA in International Relations from the Dresden University of Technology, with studies abroad in Besançon and Geneva.
