Matthias Kaufmann from Erlangen studied East Asian Studies, Politics and History in Heidelberg, Beijing and Hong Kong, as well as International Relations at Sciences Po Paris, at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, and the Harvard Kennedy School in Boston. He gained initial international work experience at the German Embassy in Beijing and the Think Tank China Institute in Paris. As a Mercator Fellow, he focused on diplomatic dialogue and governance cooperation with China.
