During her Mercator Fellowship, Beate Küpper will explore the influence of right-wing populist positions in Germany. She will focus particularly on how municipal and civil society organizations deal with right-wing populism. Her objective is to analyse the action strategies of stakeholders with a view to identifying possible courses of action and recommendations.
Beate Küpper is a professor of social work in groups and conflict situations at the Hochschule Niederrhein, University of Applied Sciences. She works on discrimination, diversity and integration and analyses prejudice structures, for example in the long-term project "Gruppenbezogene Menschenfeindlichkeit in Deutschland“ (i.e. Group-related misanthropy in Germany). She was a member of the German Bundestag’s independent anti-Semitism commission from 2015 to 2016. She works in the editorial department of the magazine "Demokratie gegen Menschenfeindlichkeit" (i.e. Democracy against misanthropy) and as a co-author of the 2016 Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s "Mitte" study on misanthropic, right-wing populist attitudes.
