As a Mercator Fellow, Pao works on reform proposals of the international financial architecture in light of the climate crisis. His main focus is the role of multilateral development banks in the global energy transition. Previously, Pao worked at Innovations for Poverty Action Ghana, the OECD Statistics Directorate, and the University of Cambridge. He studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics in Manchester and Paris, and holds an MPhil International Relations from the University of Oxford.
