During his Mercator Fellowship, Martin Kahanec explores the growing gap between social and economic facts and the public perception and politicization of migration in Europe.
Martin Kahanec is Professor at the Central European University in Budapest. Since 2008 he has headed the Central European Labour Studies Institute in Bratislava, which he co-founded. He is an affiliated Scholar at the Global Labor Organization; Centre for Population, Development and Labour Economics (POP), MERIT, United Nations University, Maastricht; and University of Economics in Bratislava. In 2016 he was elected to become a member of Academia Europaea. He has published in peer-reviewed academic journals and collected volumes including the Oxford Handbook of Economic Inequality and the International Handbook on the Economics of Migration, and he has edited several scientific book volumes and journal special issues.
