Decoding the “Year 2024”: The nexus of elections and international realignment

Project description

This project addresses the link between the upcoming elections in 2024 – with a specific focus on the European Parliament, India, and South Africa -, the ongoing question of international de-/re-alignment and the European response to these overarching changes, with the aim of providing forward-looking smart policy advice to European decision makers.

Short biography

Ilke Toygür is the Director of IE Center for Innovation in Global Politics and Economics, and Professor of Geopolitics of Europe at the School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs at IE University in Madrid. She is also a Senior Associate at the CSIS Europe, Russia and Eurasia Program in Washington DC and serves as an elected board member of the Trans European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA) in Brussels.

She has spent the last fifteen years working on European integration, EU institutions, elections and democracy in Western Europe, geopolitics of Europe, transatlantic relations, and Turkey’s relations with the West. She holds a BA degree and an MA degree in Economics, an MA degree in Democracy and Government and a PhD in Political Science. She has been a Mercator-IPC Fellow at Istanbul Policy Center and a fellow at Centre for Applied Turkey Studies at SWP in Berlin. She has published with a wide range of institutions and frequently comments on European affairs in the international media.
