During her Mercator Fellowship, Derya Şahin will conduct research on the implementation of artificial intelligence for a more equitable global healthcare. She will focus on strategies to provide access to AI-driven medical innovations for disadvantaged population groups and will analyze successful best-practice examples as well as identify incentives for broader implementation.
Previously, as a postdoctoral researcher at the University Hospital in Cologne, Derya’s work concentrated on AI ethics in medicine and digital mental health while pursuing her residency training in psychiatry and psychotherapy. She gained experience in public and global health as a scientific associate at the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health and studied Medicine in Heidelberg, Bologna, Berlin, Paris, and Istanbul.
