statement regarding coronavirus

Stiftung Mercator is keeping a watchful eye on the developments surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19). In the interests of public health, we are therefore taking measures to protect the wellbeing of our employees, partners and visitors, as well as of participants in our events and programmes. Furthermore, we wish to help slow the spread of this viral disease to the greatest extent possible. At the same time, we will continue working on our themes.

All events staged by Stiftung Mercator and its partner organizations, as well as all events at our headquarters, have now been cancelled, initially until 19 April 2020. We will notify you as applicable should this period be extended.

The foundation’s headquarters in Essen will remain open until further notice, and can be used as a workplace by our employees with the usual infrastructure. This also applies to our Mercator Centre in Berlin. We are giving our employees the freedom to decide whether or not they wish to work from home. We apologize for any inconvenience caused should staff not always be reachable in individual cases.

We have requested our employees to undertake only essential travel, regardless of the destination. We have likewise called upon them to cancel as far as possible all participation in events. This guideline will also remain in force initially until 19 April 2020.
