The Mercator Foundation Alumni Network offers its young members the opportunity to expand their language skills and intercultural competencies. Therefore, the Foundation supports language courses in Chinese, German as a foreign language and Turkish.
Members of the Stiftung Mercator Alumni Network (minimum age 16 years) are eligible to apply for the subsidy. We particularly encourage highschool and university students, trainees and young professionals from the network to apply.
Applications for courses ending in 2022 can be submitted online at any time until March 31, 2022. The application documents must be submitted to Stiftung Mercator at least 6 weeks before the scheduled start of the language course.
Strengthening intercultural understanding through language skills
Stiftung Mercator supports alumni with an explicit interest in expanding their foreign language and intercultural skills. Young adults from the network of Stiftung Mercator in particular are encouraged to apply to continue their linguistic education, deepen their understanding of Germany, Turkey or China and help strengthen international understanding.
Financial support for language courses
Alumni can apply for a subsidy of up to 500.00€ to complete a certified language course in any of the following languages:
German (as a Foreign Language)
The funded course should include at least 25 teaching units. When participating in an intensive course, the minimum duration is 1 week. The grant can also be used for travel expenses and accommodation costs at the language course location (also abroad). Any additional costs, subsistence costs or costs for international insurances exceeding the maximum grant amount must be borne by the applicant.
The application is submitted online. Please refer to the Mercator Alumni Portal MercatorGlobe for further information on this grant and how to apply.
