During his fellowship, Frank Pieke aims to assess the robustness and longevity of the Communist Party’s new modalities of rule, and the impact they have on China’s behavior as an international actor and emerging superpower.
Frank Pieke’s current research revolves around the impact of China on Europe, foreign immigrant groups in China and the transformation of the Chinese Communist Party. His most recent books are "The Good Communist" and "Knowing China", both published by Cambridge University Press.
He has set up and directed the Oxford China Centre. Subsequently in Leiden he served as academic director of the Institute of Area Studies and as executive director of the Leiden Asia Centre. He has conducted numerous consultancy and externally funded projects and also served as the director of the Mercator Institute for China Studies.
