Basak Babaoglu is part of a network of young Turkish and European leaders from all sectors who come together once a year to engage in intensive dialogue and to share views and ideas about topical social issues. The Turkey Europe Future Forum takes place alternately in Turkey and Germany, as well as in other European countries.

Short biography

Basak Babaoglu works as Manager for EU Affairs at the Brussels Representation of Metro Group since November 2016. Before moving to Brussels, she worked as Ankara Representative of Metro Group for 5 years. In that capacity she mainly focused on corporate public policy; participated to Turkish political and regulatory processes and was committed to safeguard that these activities were conducted with transparency and high ethical standards, as well as in compliance with EU laws and regulations. Prior to joining Metro Group in 2011, she worked for 6 years on various EU-funded projects to help Turkey implementing the EU-acquis regarding environmental, public health, justice and home affairs legislation. Before working on public policy issues, Basak worked as an assistant at the International Center for Graduate Studies at the University of Hamburg and Istanbul Bilgi University and later as an expert in the Financial Control and Planning Department at Finansbank, Istanbul. She believes in promoting civic engagement and aligning business and civil-society interests with public policy tools and has been active in numerous voluntary organizations such as AFS, AEGEE, Turkish Community in Hamburg, and Soroptimist Organization. Basak holds an LL.M. in Law and Economics from University of Hamburg, Germany, a M.A. in European Studies from Istanbul Bilgi University and Leiden University and a B.Sc. in Economics from Middle East Technical University.
