Kristen Biehl is part of a network of young Turkish and European leaders from all sectors who come together once a year to engage in intensive dialogue and to share views and ideas about topical social issues. The Turkey Europe Future Forum takes place alternately in Turkey and Germany, as well as in other European countries.
Kristen Biehl is an anthropologist and sociologist currently engaged as Mercator IPC-Fellow at the Istanbul Policy Center. For the past 10 years she has been involved both academically and professionally in intensive research within the migration and asylum field in Turkey, working with a number of different migrant and refugee communities, NGO’s and public institutions. During this time Kristen has acted as lead researcher, coordinator or assistant for a number of international and national research projects. Her research interests range from asylum policies in Turkey to urban society and space transformation through migration and diversification processes. She has written several publications on these topics. Kristen is currently in the completion stage of her PhD, jointly carried out at the University of Oxford’s Institute of Social and Cultural Anthropology (ISCA) and the Centre on Migration, Policy and Society (COMPAS). She is also working on the EU’s comprehensive needs assessment on the situation of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
