Her project focuses on the complex linkages between religious education and democratic inclusion of the Alevi community in Turkey and Germany.
Ayşe Ezgi Gürcan is a political scientist and an expert in Middle Eastern studies, Turkish politics and comparative politics. She specializes particularly in the links between religion, politics and minority rights. She completed her PhD at Sabancı University in 2013. She received an M.A. degree in Arabic, Persian and Turkish languages and cultures from Leiden University. She also holds a B.A. degree in sociology and a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies from Middle East Technical University.
