Mercator Centre Berlin

In June 2011, Stiftung Mercator opened its Mercator Centre Berlin (MCB) at Hackescher Markt, where around 100 employees from eleven different organizations work on five floors.

A creative hub for joint projects

The Mercator Centre Berlin is a creative hub for joint projects pursued by Stiftung Mercator and its partner organizations, as well as with other partners and actors, on issues relating to the foundation’s thematic clusters – EuropeIntegrationClimate Change and Cultural Education. At the same time, it serves as a forum for exchange with a view to identifying relevant overlapping themes. Discussions and further training courses appropriate to the thematic clusters and to the overarching theme of “political communication” are also on offer, thereby completing the MCB’s profile.

A finger on the political pulse

As well as engaging in an exchange with its partners, Stiftung Mercator also wants to make itself available in Berlin as an independent partner. It wants to keep its finger on the political pulse in all its activities, identifying trends and developments in its thematic clusters at an early stage and bringing its issues to the political debate. As a forum for exchange, the Mercator Centre Berlin provides a suitable framework in which to meet with relevant stakeholders for regular discussions, to make offers to politicians and decision-makers and to debate project plans and results. As such, the Mercator Centre Berlin plays a central role in Stiftung Mercator’s  communication work and forms part of the Communication Staff Unit.
