In Germany, success in education is still primarily a question of social background: whether or not a child is successful in school depends to a major extent on the family into which he or she is born. Young people of migrant origin from socially deprived families face double the burden.
In our Centre for Integration, we support and develop projects that aim to reduce educational inequality and achieve integration and social cohesion. This is the declared objective of our thematic cluster of Integration. Knowledge transfer through cooperation and networks plays an increasingly important role in this context, as do links to other key educational issues.
