Basic chemicals, plastics, and rubber products could become more climate-friendly and resource-efficient if they were made from bio-based rather than fossil-based raw materials. During her fellowship year, Dr. Veronika Beer is exploring how Eastern European countries can position themselves as producers of such renewable raw materials and contribute to the decarbonization of European industry.
A chemist by training, she draws on her experience in research, sustainable development, and policy advocacy gained through her work with a German industry association, a scientific society, and a research institute.
