In the context of his PhD-thesis Nikolas Scherer investigates the increasing adoption of index insurance instruments or ‘climate insurances’. ‘Climate insurances’ are generically designed to protect states and other actors from the economic consequences of natural disasters and allow quick the access to capital in the case of a major catastrophe. They are enabled through the financial market products.
Nikolas Scherer studied international relations (MA) at the University of Warwick, UK, and governance and public policy (BA) at the University of Passau and in Rome (‘La Sapienza’). Prior to joining the Hertie School, Nikolas was an intern with the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP) and worked as a student and teaching assistant with the Chair in Political Science at the University of Passau. He was also an active member of the European Youth Parliament (EYP).
