Project title

Prosecuting former child soldiers under international criminal law: Towards a system of just punishment

Short biography

Mirka Fries obtained a Bachelor of Law with an emphasis on German and International Law and International Relations from the Universities of Muenster and Potsdam. Internships took her to Milan and Edinburgh. Recently, she finished her LL.M. in International Criminal Law in a program jointly organized by the University of Amsterdam and Columbia Law School, New York, with distinction. She gained first professional experience at the International Criminal Court and with human rights NGOs focusing on children’s rights and working with victims of sexual violence and refugees. During her fellowship, Mirka will focus on legal and political questions related to the recruitment and use of child soldiers.
