Mehmet Gökay Özerim is part of a network of young Turkish and European leaders from all sectors who come together once a year to engage in intensive dialogue and to share views and ideas about topical social issues. The Turkey Europe Future Forum takes place alternately in Turkey and Germany, as well as in other European countries.

Short biography

Dr. Mehmet Gökay Özerim is a member of the International Relations Department as an Assistant Professor and the Director of the European Union Research Center at Yaşar University in Izmir. He holds a PhD on European Studies and his major fields of research are migration, security and interculturalism. He has published on anti-immigration actors in Europe, Europeanization of migration policies and the security-identity nexus in the Southeast European countries. In 2004, he worked for a non-governmental immigrant organization in Ancona, Italy. He was awarded the Chevening Scholarship of UK Government in 2010 and did research at the Centre of Migration, Politics and Society (COMPAS) at the University of Oxford as part of his PhD studies. In 2014, Mehmet has been at the Institute of European Studies in University of California, Berkeley as a visiting scholar. He has been working in several European Union funded projects and delivered trainings on intercultural learning, youth participation, social responsibility and project management since 2007.
