As a Mercator Fellow, Max Schmidt investigates how to reach the new global climate finance target of USD 300 billion-USD 1.3 trillion p.a. by 2035, with a special focus on renewable energy finance. His goal is to identify and promote innovative solutions to existing bottlenecks and hidden handbrakes. Max has previously worked with climate and energy think tanks, a renewable energy consultancy, academic centres for sustainable finance and African Studies, and the German Embassy in South Africa. He holds an M.Sc. in Research for International Development from SOAS, University of London, two B.A. degrees from Leipzig University, and is a Certified Expert in Climate and Renewable Energy Finance.
