This project is based on interviews with Turkish citizens who have to pass a language test in order to join family members already living in Germany.
Martina Priessner is a documentary filmmaker and author based in Istanbul and Berlin. For the past few years, her interests have focused on German-Turkish migration. Martina completed her first full-length documentary in 2010 entitled “Wir sitzen im Süden“ (Based Down South), which was nominated for the Grimme Award. In 2013, she made the found footage film “Everyday I´m Çapuling” about the summer 2013 Gezi protests in Istanbul. Between 2008 and 2010, she worked as a dramatic advisor and curator at the Ballhaus Naunynstrasse, a post-migrant theatre in Berlin.
