Agroecology: Concepts for Sustainable and Climate Resilient Food Systems

Short biography

During the Mercator-Fellowship, Manuel Holzer will focus on sustainable and climate resilient food systems. His focus is on agroecology, for example agroforestry systems. In doing so, he investigates the question of which socio-economic conditions have the potential to promote these cultivation methods. He is enthusiastic about concepts that harmonize nature conservation, human well-being and natural resource use. Until now, Manuel has worked on various projects on sustainable development, including at the World Resources Forum, the aquatic research Institute Eawag/Sandec and the International Centre for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT). He studied Environmental Sciences at ETH Zurich.
