Strenghtening EU-South Asia Relations

Short biography

As a Mercator Fellow, Leo Wigger focuses on EU-South Asia relations, aiming to better equip policy advisory institutions in Europe to address the growing importance of the Indian subcontinent and to strengthen sustainable, inclusive structures for expertise. Wigger gained professional experience as a project manager and division head at the Berlin-based think-and-do-tank Candid Foundation, as a Schuman Trainee in the Cabinet of the President of the EU Parliament, and at the Zeit Foundation in Hamburg. He further deepened his international expertise through work in Pakistan, Georgia, and Bulgaria. He holds an M.Sc. in State, Society, and Development from SOAS University of London, where he specialized in South Asia, and a B.A. in Integrated European Studies from the University of Bremen. In 2023, he participated as a Raisina Young Fellow in the Asian Forum on Global Governance, organized by the Observer Research Foundation and the Zeit-Stiftung in Delhi. As a freelance journalist, he writes regularly for German and international media on international politics, focusing on India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, and is co-author of a book on Qatar. He serves on the editorial board and publishing circle of the specialized magazine zenith and remains a co-partner and board member of the Candid Foundation.
