Short biography

 

Isabella Gerstner is an artist and art pedagogue. She works on intercultural participatory art projects, coordinates cultural education programmes for young people and is also a lecturer in art pedagogy and aesthetic education. Her artistic research focuses on the intersection between artistic and creative action strategies and their potential for transfer as elements for social design within society. From 2017 to 2019 she lived in Istanbul and worked in different artistic and education projects. While on scholarship from the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs at Tarabya Cultural Academy she completed an artistic research project in a factory for buffing and abrasive materials. Her research engaged with the frictional potential of artistic methods in social contexts and the Turkish working environment. In addition she worked as an art teacher at an international school in Istanbul, during which she also implemented in school and extracurricular participative education projects for sustainable development. After completing a bachelors degree in Pedagogy and Cultural Management, she studied Fine Art, Art Education and Interdisciplinary Media Studies at the State Academy of Fine Arts Karlsruhe and the Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design. She also holds a Master of Arts from the Institute for Art in Context, a postgraduate programme at the Berlin University of the Arts.
