Iris Baño Romero currently works as a Communications Officer for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Lima, Peru. She works on public information campaigns to raise awareness of refugee issues, with a focus on media relations and strategy, acting as a spokesperson. Prior to joining UNHCR first in Madrid and later in Panama, Iris worked as a Communications Consultant for Ecorys in London, where she delivered communication campaigns for European Institutions such as the European Commission and several EU Delegations around the world, from the Dominican Republic to the north of Cyprus. Iris holds a Masters degree in Public Policy from University College London (UCL) and a BA in Journalism from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. She undertook her final year of undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley, California, where she also worked for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) providing support to underage, undocumented migrants. Iris started her communications career in local and national media in Spain. She is a passionate supporter of the European project and the use of communications for development, and practices music and dance in her free time.
