Project description

Hasan Selim Özertem is part of a network of young Turkish and European leaders from all sectors who come together once a year to engage in intensive dialogue and to share views and ideas about topical social issues. The Turkey Europe Future Forum takes place alternately in Turkey and Germany, as well as in other European countries.

Short biography

Hasan Selim Özertem received his B.Sc. in Economics from the Middle East Technical University where he also completed his M.A. in Eurasian Studies with his thesis entitled “Russian Soft Power in the Post Soviet Space”. He is a researcher at the Ankara-based think-tank International Strategic Research Organization (USAK). He worked at USAK’s Center for Eurasian Studies between 2006 and 2011, after which he went on to become the director of USAK’s Center for Energy Security Studies. He worked on several projects with the United Nations, the Turkish Ministry of Interior Affairs, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and BP. He was a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Moscow Center from April to July 2013 and is currently a PhD candidate at the Department of Political Science at the Bilkent University. Hasan has contributed to national newspapers and journals such as Hurriyet Daily News, Today’s Zaman and others and has appeared on several Turkish and international media platforms such as CNN International, BBC, Al-Jazeera, New York Times, Washington Post and others. He is a contributor to the German Marshall Fund’s “On Turkey Series” and one of Turkey’s prominent foreign policy monthlies "Analist". He is also the co-editor of the academic journal “Review of International Law and Politics”.
