As a Mercator Fellow, Cecilia Kilimann examines, from a geopolitical perspective, how climate change and the energy transition are shaping relations between the EU and the countries of the MENA region. She explores how resistance to phasing out fossil fuels can be overcome, what new opportunities for cooperation arise through the development of green markets, and how the impacts of climate change affect the politics and economies of MENA countries.
Previously, Cecilia worked as a Research Analyst and Policy Advisor in the Scientific Directors’ team at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), at the Secretariat of the International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP), and in the German Bundestag. A scholar of the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), she studied Political Science and International Political Economy at Freie Universität Berlin and King’s College London.
