Stiftung Mercator fellows and alumni work on diverse themes and, through their experience, contribute a broad variety of expertise and ideas. Stiftung Mercator uses the Mercator Alumni Fund to support its fellows and alumni in establishing and cultivating an active network for the period after their programme funding. Personal encounters, exchange and cooperation are key aspects of the network, as is the opportunity to learn from one another.
Stiftung Mercator fellows and alumni can apply for funding from the Mercator Alumni Fund to support their ideas for networking and exchange with one another. The networking concept and an interdisciplinary approach determine the orientation of the events, seminars or workshops that are planned and organized by the alumni themselves. Furthermore, the Mercator Alumni Fund will provide support for smaller-scale project ideas developed within the network that relate to Stiftung Mercator’s themes (Europe, Integration, Climate Change and Cultural Education) and fields of activity (International Affairs, Science and Humanities, and Education).
Applications may be made to the Mercator Alumni Fund for three types of funding:
Applications are submitted in a two-stage process. An outline application is submitted in the first stage. If the application is approved in an initial review, applicants will be invited in the second stage to submit a complete application with all the necessary documents (project description and budget plan).
Applications for up to 800 euros to fund events and up to 5,000 euros to fund specialist seminars/workshops and project ideas may be submitted.
