Study on Strategies for Impact in Education
In its study on Strategies for Impact in Education, the Centre for Social Investment (CSI) at the University of Heidelberg is researching strategies pursued by foundations that are having a successful impact on society in the area of education. The study is focusing on integration of migrants, cultural education and school development.
Structure and Organization
The CSI is an academic institution of the University of Heidelberg and its academic director is Professor Helmut Anheier. The education study is part of a bigger European project entitled Strategies for Impact in Philanthropy, which is being funded by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal), the Compagnia di San Paolo (Italy), the King Baudouin Foundation (Belgium) and the Stiftelsen Riksbanken Jubileumsfond (Sweden). For the focal area of education, examples of best practice followed by European foundations are identified and analysed, and then compared with reference projects in the USA and Canada.
Objectives
The study’s goal is to identify models which have already been established by international foundations and have a considerable impact on education, and to make these findings available for use by other foundations and the third sector. Knowledge about which strategies and formats generate added value in the area of education will open up new possibilities for foundations to expand and justify their scope of action.
