Arts for Education!
International Symposium on Arts Education in Europe
The symposium's objective is to bring together people and projects in the field of arts education in order to discuss action requirements and scope for action in this educational discipline. In the framework of professional discourse, international educational scientists, practitioners and politicians involved in education policy are able to exchange knowledge and experiences and to network with each other. Structure and Organization
Learning with art, through art, in the perception of and in the creation of art means taking a different approach to learning and learning different things – as a participant in the process of arts education. Stiftung Mercator will invite around 350 international experts to the Philharmonic Hall in Essen from 13 to 15 September 2010 to attend "Arts for Education!", a symposium seeking answers to many unresolved issues relating to the progress and impact of arts education. What are the responsibilities of politics and society in the area of arts education for children and youth? Who are the players in this complex field of action? And what are their interests? How can and should teachers and persons engaged in the cultural sector be trained to be cultural educators? What possibilities for knowledge transfer exist? And what is the target group's perspective?
Objectives
The Mercator symposium puts the issue of arts education in the public eye. Interaction between all cultural educators and cooperation between teachers, artists, persons engaged in the cultural sector and the education process is just as important as an awareness of the international context.
