Cultural Education
Cultural society 2020: We wish to increase the importance of arts education in Germany
Education must play a key role if our society is to continue to thrive in the future, as this is the only way we will be able to face the challenges of the globalised world. The importance of cultural education for the acquisition of knowledge, personality formation, creativity and sustainability is still often underestimated. Our goal is to anchor art and culture more firmly within our education system and to bring about a new culture of teaching and learning.
We are therefore committed to ensuring that, by 2015, the value, usefulness and importance of cultural and arts education for learning and human development are recognised by and made relevant to the actions and decisions of the department of education in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and of the departments of education in three other German states. By 2025, this goal should have been reached in all departments of education in Germany. Indicators for this target are modified and enhanced curricular quality criteria, which do not actually encompass artistic criteria.
