Stiftung Mercator GmbH, Essen, and Stiftung Mercator Schweiz, Zurich, were founded by the Schmidt family, which has donated a substantial amount of its own assets to the foundation.
The assets of Stiftung Mercator GmbH, Essen, currently amount to 109,710,000 euros (as of 31.12.2010).
Project funding grants are posted to the accounts as expenses by Stiftung Mercator in accordance with our internal governance code. This procedure ensures that funds which are approved for drawdown over the next few years will remain available irrespective of the occurrences in subsequent years.
Stiftung Mercator has invested approximately 161.8 million euros in over 564 projects between the time when it commenced its work and the end of 2010.
