Federal President Johannes Rau Bursary

The participants of the Federal President Johannes Rau Bursary

The Federal President Johannes Rau Bursary was established in 2006 and it is an exchange programme for young journalists in Germany and Turkey.

Structure and Organization

Every year, a series of German journalists have the opportunity to spend two months working as guest editor at Turkish media. The programme also offers journalists in Turkey the opportunity to spend two months working in Germany. Federal President Johannes Rau, who has always been a staunch supporter of positive relations between Germany and Turkey, lends his name to the IJP programme for Turkey.

Objectives

The bursary programme offers young, ambitious journalists from Germany and Turkey the opportunity to get to know the host country. During a two-month stay in Turkey, German journalists are able to explore and learn to appreciate the political and economic background of this country which is so important for Germany. The programme also offers both sides an opportunity to gain an insight into the culture, lifestyle and journalistic practices in the host country.
